Most of our students and bands have been busy recording in studios the last couple of weeks. The result will be published in May 2018. Here are some photos from the studio sessions.
This winter we had concerts in Daktari, Prulcek and Sputnik. This video has video clips from all concerts – unfortunately, it does not include everyone but randomly picked short snippets.
Once again our students have surprised us with their talent and progress at our annual summer concerts. This time we held 2 of 3 concerts at Daktari bar in the centre of Ljubljana close to the market. It was a great venue for solo and duo performances and we got good feedback from both students and audience that it felt more like a real concert. Since it was a small stage in Daktari the bands and drummers performed at the school.
The prize concert on the 2nd of April was again in Kino Siska which is a great venue for this type of event. After considering feedback and experience from last years concert we managed to create an even better concert this year and you could see smiling faces in all directions. The six winners from this years competition performed their songs with the help of professional musicians and jury members Gregor Zemljic, Rok Trkaj, Rok Golob, Tinkara Kovac, Tomaz O Rous and Hannah Mancini. Before each performer we could also see a short video presentation about the young composers. Prizes were also given to the “Runners up” while listening to an extract of their songs.
The song for this block has been Skyfall by Adele.
Background: The last Friday of every block according to the BISL (British International School of Ljubljana) calendar, BIMS holds a jam session. The song chosen for each block is distributed by instrument/voice teachers and rehearsed during the block at lessons and at home. Students are more or less prepared and know the song so that when the jam starts and it is just a matter of bringing it together and playing it as a band. Participants can play a part as simple or complex as they are able to, which means that even beginners can join in.
The students learned the song “Gimme some lovin” from the film Blues Brothers this block.
