CompComp 2015 is now over and we can look back at an exciting project which we look forward to improve even more for 2016. With 46 entries and many of them of a high standard, we had a prize concert in Kino siska on the 30th January where the 5 selected winners performed together with judges and professional musicians. We had Timo Kosi on drums, Daniel Matic on guitar and Andrej Tezak on bass. From the jury we heard performances by Neisha, Tinkara Kovac and Tomaz O Rous. Chris Eckman and Bojan Cvetreznik who were also part of the jury could not perform this time but were there to give feedback.
The first winning act at the concert was composed by Anja Lobnik (16). It was a complex piece called “Mrtvaski ples” made for symphony orchestra which was not possible to play live at this time. Instead the prima ballerina from Maribor SNG Jelena Lečić performed a choreography created by Miss Alexandra Velentina Turcu.
The choreography was especially made for the piece composed by Anja and it was performed with an audio playback. The judge Mr Bojan Cvetreznik commented on the advanced composing techniques used and the impressive development of the piece. You can find it on YouTube HERE.
The second act came from our own music school, the three young girls Jasmina (9), Astrid (10) and Enja (9) from Year 5 have a band together and they have the last year or so started to write their own songs. Inspired by CompComp they spent many lunch breaks in the practice room and it paid off. Their song “Help me” impressed the jury and as part of their prize they got to work with professional musicians to develop their song further. You can find their song on YouTube HERE.
The third song was an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) song composed by Lian Matic (12). The audience could hardly sit still to this funky tune called “O.V.E.R” and the other young composers were dancing wildly behind the stage. Kino siska showed off their impressive light setup in a light show and afterwards the jury praised Lian for both his technical and musical skills. You can hear his song on YouTube HERE.
Next to enter the stage was Hana Fatur (14) with a microphone and stage piano. Hana entranced the audience with her well written song and beautiful voice. Same as the other winners she got a gift card from Lastra music shop and a studio recording in a professional Slovenian studio. Hana is now recording in Hobbit studio and we look forward to hearing the result. You can find her song on YouTube HERE.
The last winner to perform was Karolina Grujic (10) who had done a lovely pop song with Slovene lyrics. Karolina comes originally from Serbia but has lived in Ljubljana for about a year. She attends the KGBL – Konservatorij za Glasba in Balet Ljubljana on both singing and piano.Karolina will record her song in the SAE studio. You can find it on YouTube HERE.
When the studio recordings are done the winners will visit the Denis Avdic show at Radio1 where they will talk about their experiences and play their song.
