Through the great Biophilia apps we will learn about music, nature and technology. We will play games; we will get acquainted with chords by pushing together the tectonic plates; solar system and its gravity will help us to create bass lines; the size of the moon will decide how long the notes are; We will master music notations, scales; explore the world of dark matter, viruses and much more!
With what we will learn, we will be able to create are own music and express our emotions. We will be artistically all-encompassing in our approach and we will explore, discuss, draw, dance, create and so on.
Music is one of the most synthesized brain activity and what better way to use it than to learn about other things as well?
My name is Katja Mlinar. I studied classical music, physiotherapy for musicians and vocal improvisation in Paris. My interests have always been very diverse and I am passionate about places where different human activities meet. I have spent my summer in Iceland where Biophilia apps were created by the world famous singer Björk in collaboration with teachers and scientists from the University of Iceland and Reykjavík City Schools. I can’t wait to share the possibilities of this very creative approach in learning with the school’s students.
British International School in Ljubljana is the first establishment in Slovenia to offer workshops with Biophilia apps. After a three year long world tour, Biophilia educational program is now in process of being integrated in school curriculums in Scandinavian countries. It seems that the benefits of learning through creativity and gaming will shape the future of education.
