As a parent of a now 11-year old girl that wanted to learn djembe drumming for years I was very happy for her to find a music school that is so different from the other music schools in Slovenia. She was a total beginner two years ago and traditional music schools here wouldn’t even accept her because she is very far from having a perfect singing pitch. But she loved djembe and got all that she needed from the lessons to have fun playing it now. In the beginning music theory was playfully incorporated into the lessons while she was learning the basic rhythms and now in the second year she just loves playing along with YouTube music videos and in a teacher/student/parent band. She was never judged and was always supported to go at her own pace, but at the same time challenged enough to get out of her comfort zone. That’s why she was able to maintain the fun element of playing an instrument and a couple of months ago she even initiated a performance that was put on stage in Celje, in which she accompanied her two dancing sisters. She even wrote one of the rhythms for the performance herself. So I have to say that the BIMS music school has exceeded all of my expectations and would highly recommend it to anyone, especially parents that highly value creativity.

My three boys (ages 11, 9, and 8) started taking piano lessons last September at BISM. They ended the school year having made great progress. This is due to the fact that, though they have three distinctly different personalities, their teacher taught each one of them using methods and music that suited the personality of the student. He taught them not just how to play the notes, but how to enjoy the music, create with music, and even how to make mistakes with style. Their teacher couldn’t have set a better tone for my boys’ introduction to the piano and now they are motivated and happy to continue.
